Prickly love and secret nests

Every night at 9.30 prompt three hedgehogs arrive outside the door.  So obviously we supply three bowls of food.  So when two hedgehogs decide to share a feeding bowl it must be significant


The BTO, who ought to know, say that a Goldcrest nest “is very neat and is basically a spherical hammock positioned in the outer twigs of a spruce or fir tree.”  Now we have lots of fir trees so why has a Goldcrest decided to nest on the ground in long grass here?
