Gone too soon

The swallows have been swooping through the crack above the wood shed door, four yellow gapes becoming bolder and brighter. This was from two days ago;

then it seemed one parent was absent, and today the remaining one disappeared. The sparrowhawk must be the predator.

So that is two plus four swallows who won’t be returning here

For some reason, the first hedgehog of the evening arrives when it is still light – and very wet. he is invited in for supper
