Will she, won’t she?

When one of the hens goes broody she gets put in the naughty box until she gets over it. Sometimes it takes a day or two, sometimes a long time…

We decided on a different approach with Claire. Why not use this fanaticism to our advantage? We hastily shoved a couple of eggs under her while we sent off for some supplies to bring new blood to the flock.

and then settled down to enjoy the warmth of the sun, in preference to providing warmth for the eggs.

We wait to see if she will get serious in the morning… when it rains.

Elsewhere today, having recently journeyed into deepest Shropshire for a bargain purchase, we puzzle as to how beehives are actually put together

and today we locally procure 29 identical clean pallets
