Daytime hedgehogs and indoor cherry trees

Some very heavy showers today. Around the end of the afternoon we found this gentleman

walking past the wood shed. He was a good weight and had no evident health problems and was soon on his way. We wondered if a little flash flood had flushed him out from under the shed.  Rather wet, he was anxious to be on the move which is typical of males.

Slowly, slowly we are carving out space in a new polytunnel. As well as being productive we want it to thrill the senses

We are moving towards the centre

which will be the home for a cherry tree

which will be espalier trained between the posts.

Some less frequent bird visitors today.
The Redpolls we just see from time to time

and haven’t had a Greenfinch for ages

It is good to see the young Great Tits around

The Flycatchers have used the same box on the big ash outside the house for three years running. In the previous two years the male has favoured an ash twig as his launch point but this year has taken to the fence top from which to spot the flies he will take back to the brood.

This visitor we see very day of course

but for some reason can’t resist taking their photo.
