For various reasons (mostly unknowns) we have had over a year without piglets. Artificial insemination and Bert’s Best Efforts all led to nothing.
Now it is last chance for Bert and his harem of two down in the mating corral,
It takes forethought to move pigs around.
Is Bert past it? Has Lottie left it to late? Will Dinah have the chance to be a perfect mother again? This week the seeds will be sown but results will not be known until well into next year.
Today is Lottie’s turn – she enters the corral
Bert joins her and starts off by eating her food while she sticks her head in the nettles
worrying if she has paid sufficient attention to her tail grooming
She stands well for Bert
which shows she is ready and also calm for her first real boar following the failed AI
It was hard to judge how successful Bert was
but he did his best
Afterwards Lottie’s back legs were a bit wobbly for ten minutes or so
Bert had a lie down
