We’re Only Half Way There

The year has tipped, half gone. But that half has seemed a year in itself: two months of non-stop water; two months of non-stop drought; and now the timeless background of living in our self-contained little world in even greater immersion than we normally do.

When the flora starts fruiting

20200705-20200705-14-2

20200705-20200705-10-2

20200705-20200705-09-2

20200705-20200705-07-2

we know that they see their year as over.

And as the days start shortening

20200702-20200702-09-2

we know what they mean.

This wren

20200705-20200705-08

like other birds, is filling up its last brood

20200705-20200705-07

ready to leave the nest

and the Jay

20200703-20200703-02-2

has time on her hands to clear the feeders.

After a shaky start the rabbit breeding plan is taking off

20200706-20200706-04

and has led us to grow things never before cultivated here

20200705-20200705-02-2

20200705-20200705-01-2

20200705-20200705-04-2

provisions for rabbit salad

20200704-20200704-03

not to be confused with ours

20200704-20200704-01

we argue over the fennel

20200705-20200705-17

Our crops seem to take longer to come to fruition, courgettes beginning to form

20200705-20200705-21-2

the first aubergine flowers

20200705-20200705-21

cucumbers climbing

20200705-20200705-20-2

beetroot almost ready

20200705-20200705-18-2

beans on the rise

20200705-20200705-05-2

leeks ready in the winter

20200705-20200705-18

We have been enjoying the peas

20200705-20200705-12-2

and the cherries

20200703-20200703-35

20200624-20200624-01

plus the wine making apparatus is being dusted down

20200706-20200706-11

20200706-20200706-09

So, come rain

20200703-20200703-09

20200703-20200703-07

or shine

20200706-20200706-01

we enter the downward slope of the year in good spirits.

  1. Amazing produce! I think you have arrived!
So much going on to perfection.
We are loaded with cherries too, and raspberries and black currant s still to pick.
Our leeks are not pencil thick yet! Still in pots..
But in the raised beds we have carrots, parsnip, lettuce, radish, cauliflower, and outside we have two circular plots made from silo walls! In there the one is covered with netting with brassicas well on the way.
Also outside, runner beans ,corgettes and butternuts.
Poly is full of toms, and rocket. The strawberries in freezer.
    All adhoc growing!

The Hoopla stall tent is now a cabin, Phil been busy with tunnel and groove!
The Glamping site is now underway.
    Still mostly in lockdown ourselves.
    HugsRoz and Phil x
