Stripping away the superfluous

We set off on our Solstice walk

with the idea we would look for signs of new life arising.

We could see some…

IMG_3025

…thrusting daffodils and reserved oak buds…

IMG_3026

but things gone were more in evidence

We found that the story being told was different from the one we were seeking.

Trees stood still and stark – inscrutable

IMG_2692

Having stripped themselves bare

IMG_2717

and passed on their surplus

IMG_3039

revealing the buzzards’ hidden nesting

IMG_2669

they are concentrating on keeping their feet in the ground

holding fast

into the mystery of what is down below.

IMG_2659

Some have had a rough time this year

IMG_2697

some are bent and battered

IMG_2690

some have given up

IMG_2663

but most know when to concentrate on the inside.

IMG_2705

A few attempt seasonal decorations – grand dressing

or hidden globes

IMG_2677

but most are happy to remember

IMG_2673

wait

IMG_2662

and pause

  1. As always an evocative and pertinent report of Beth’s searching eye and pinpoint, superb photography. Thank you.
I try to look at the beauty of what is around me when I walk but it stores only in my mind’s eye and then gradually fades.
